An eighty-page publication in Hungarian and English, richly illustrated with images, was published on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Hungarian Jazz Association.
‘30 Years of Jazz’ reviews the history of jazz and the association, gives an idea of the domestic institutional system and intellectual background of the genre, introduces Hungarian performers of international interest, young people representing the new generation, according to the association's recommendation.
The publication, edited by Gábor Turi, contains a list of musicians, critics, organizers and supporters who have received professional awards from the association.
The Hungarian Jazz Association, the only social and professional organization of the genre with national competence, was founded in 1990. Its initiator and first elected president was János Gonda, who has since been succeeded by Imre Kőszegi, Attila László, Tibor Márkus, and since 2013 by Balázs Bágyi.
Today, the association, which has hundreds of members, brings together professional and amateur musicians, professionals and jazz lovers alike. Its activities have been constantly expanding over time, in addition to the general representation of the genre, it also includes the organization of events, the management of talent, the dissemination of knowledge and the professional recognition of those working for the genre.
The 30 Years of Jazz volume is available free of charge at prominent jazz clubs, genre educational institutions, and prominent cultural centers. Its preparation was supported by the National Cultural Fund.
