The House of Terror Museum, the Budapest-based memorial and exhibition dedicated to the victims of the fascist Arrow Cross and communist-era secret police regimes, reopened in Budapest on Tuesday morning after a temporary closure from Sept 15, Zoltan Tarr, minister for culture and social relations, said in a social media post.

The minister noted that the museum had closed temporarily to establish the legal framework required for its operation. He added that a professional review had also begun, but this would take significantly longer.

"We did not want to keep visitors away from the museum for so long, so we decided to reopen it during this period," Zoltán Tarr said.

He noted that an information board at the start of the exhibition informs visitors about the ongoing professional review.

Earlier, the minister explainedd that one of the biggest tasks of recent months had been the dissolution of public interest asset management foundations (kekvas), and the House of Terror Museum had fallen under this as part of the Central and Eastern European History and Society Research Foundation. As a result, the mandate of Mária Schmidt, the museum's director, was terminated.
