Hungarian movie short-listed for Oscar

The Hungarian movie ‘The notebook’ submitted to the 86th Academy Awards ('Oscars') for Best Foreign Language Film has been short-listed to be among the nine finalists from which the final five nominees announced on January 16, 2014.

The Hungarian entry is director János Szász's adaptation of the international bestselling novel by Ágota Kristóf, 'The Notebook' about two twins twins sent from Budapest to escape starvation and stay in the countryside with their cruel grandmother during the closing days of World War II and the corrosive effects of war on their young minds.

The movie that made its debut in Hungarian cinemas in September 2013, already raked in  several revognitions, the most important being the Grand Prix Crystal Globe at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the summer of 2013.
