The winners of the 40th Hungarian Press Photography Competition were announced and the prizes handed over at the opening of the 40th Hungarian Press Photography Exhibition in Budapest on Tuesday.
The Grand Prize of the National Association of Hungarian Journalists (MÚOSZ) for the most outstanding achievement was awarded to János Bődey (Telex news site) for his photo report entitled ‘Second Life’, while the André Kertész Grand Prize for the best human-centered documentary photography was awarded to János Bődey for his work entitled ‘Let Mom Live, They Asked for This One Gift for Christmas’.
At the opening ceremony, prizes were awarded to the first three winners in fourteen categories, and special prizes were also awarded, with the names of the winners having been announced earlier.
The 40th Hungarian Press Photo Contest attracted 245 photographers who submitted 2,305 entries altogether, and the jury had to judge more than 5,800 images, Gábor Virágos, Deputy Director General of the Hungarian National Museum, said at the opening ceremony.
The 40th Hungarian Press Photo Exhibition is on display in the inner courtyard of the Hungarian National Museum until May 29.
