László Benkő, co-founder of the group Omega in 1962, died at the age of 77 after a long illness.

"We are shocked to inform you that Laci Benkő, the founder of the Omega band, passed away after a long illness. Millions of fans and respecters mourn the decisive figure of Hungarian rock music both at home and abroad. Words are in vain, silence is painful, we are shocked to recall his life's work, music and his loving smile. Laci Benkő will stay with us forever," the band writes on a social media page.

They add that his funeral will take place later, but due to the epidemic situation, only 20 people can be present at the funeral. "This is why we ask to place our flowers and candles at the memorial tree planted in front of his house, in honor of his family."
