The 20-member international jury of the European Museum Academy (EMA) has awarded the Hungarian Museum of Money in Budapest with the main prize. The final, held in Timisoara on Saturday evening, saw 34 museums from 20 countries competing, and for the first time, a Hungarian institution won the prestigious award, EMA informed MTI on Monday.
EMA awarded the DASA prize, which recognizes the importance of museum learning, for the content of the exhibition, user-friendly exhibition spaces and effective museum education. In the competition for the award, the Money Museum was among the top three, along with prestigious museums such as the Forum Wissen in Göttingen, Germany, and the Carmen Thyssen Málaga Museum in Malaga, Spain.
According to the jury, "the Museum of Money provides visitors with an interactive and entertaining introduction to the financial process, the basic rules of money and the activities of the National Bank of Hungary. The use of state-of-the-art equipment and the exhibition's organizational practices make visitors aware that the way money works can be made understandable to everyone."
Eszter Hergár, Director of the Money Museum and Visitor Center, said after the award ceremony that in the year and a half since its opening, the Money Museum, which has 50 spectacular installations, has welcomed more than 135,000 visitors. The statement highlights that last year the institution was selected as one of the best museums by the Center for Museum Education and Training, and this year it won the Best of Budapest award and the Community Museum Award.
All the exhibitions and programs at the Money Museum are free of charge, and the Panorama Terrace, which is connected to the Experience Centre, is also free of charge, the statement said.
