The Photojournalists' Section of the National Association of Hungarian Journalists (MÚOSZ)has organized the Hungarian Press Photo Contest again this year. It is a showcase of the most interesting Hungarian press photos taken in 2024.
The 43rd Hungarian Press Photo Exhibition presents a selection of these photos. 282 photographers submitted 2,566 entries for prizes in 16 categories, with 7,438 images among them.
The exhibition was opened this Tuesday in the Capa Center in Budapestby Ernő Rubik, the internationally renowned Hungarian sculptor, architect, designer, interior decorator, game designer and inventor, whose name was made famous by the invention of the Rubik's cube.
The international jury was composed of Tamás Szlukovényi, curator of the Archive of Modern Conflict in Toronto, Canada (as President), Adrian Evans, owner-director of the Panos Pictures UK photo agency (London, UK), Petr Mlch, editor-in-chief of the Photo Bank of the Czech News Agency (Prague, Czech Republic), Radu Sigheti, retired photojournalist for Reuters (Bucharest, Romania) and Klára Szarka, photo historian and curator.
The grand prize of the contest was awarded to Márton Mohos of the news website 24.hu for his photo series 'From governing party member to main opposition leader' about Hungarian politician Péter Magyar.
The opening of the exhibition coincided with the publication of the Photographs of the Year 2024 album, which has been a companion to the competition for more than 30 years. In addition to all the winning photos, the editor, András Bánkuti, has published a selection of the most representative photos of the events of the past year submitted to the competition.
