On the occasion of the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Hungary, Paul Fox held a garden party at the Ambassador's residence in the Buda hills this Wednesday.
Welcoming the hundreds of guests, Ambassador Fox emphasized that this year's celebration is a special one. "It is not only the first celebration of Her Majesty's Birthday since 2019, a result of the pandemic, but we also celebrate 70 years of Her Reign."
Speaking of bilateral ties between the United Kingdom and Hungary, he stressed that "it is a relationship based on our prosperity... The trade relationship is almost GBP six billion... I am looking forward to working with Hungarian and British companies to improve this relationship."
Highlighting the importance of security, he pointed out that both Hungary and the UK are members of NATO. "This is more important than ever. Not far from here, on Hungary's border, we are witnessing a struggle where one country has launched an unprovoked attack on its neighbor. The resistance and courage of the Ukrainian people in the face of this aggression is both awe-inspiring and humbling. It is also a lesson to us all that we need to stand united in the face of such aggression, an assault on a country's sovereignty whose very right to exist is being challeneged."
