Anti-Graft Measures to Secure HUF 6,000 Bn in EU Funds

Hungary will secure HUF 6,000 billion (EUR 16 billion) in EU funds thanks to the anti-corruption measures the government has adopted, Prime Minister Péter Magyar said on social media on Sunday.

The prime minister was of the view that the Tisza government had achieved in a few weeks what the Orbán government had failed to do in three years.

He insisted that Fidesz had first voted down anti-corruption laws in parliament and now wanted to block access to the funds via the Constitutional Court.

In his post, the prime minister asked: "What can the Fidesz parliamentary group be thinking when it wants to take these trillions away from Hungarian health care, education, transport and businesses? Why do they want to sabotage energy efficiency, social housing, and rural development programs and prevent us from jointly restarting the Hungarian economy – something they failed to do in four years?"

He also put the question of "how can a party call itself patriotic when every step it takes is against its own country and its people?"
