Despite the challenges, the BUX index rose by 38% in HUF and 49% in USD last year, the second best performance in the world after Nasdaq, Richárd Végh, CEO of the Budapest Stock Exchange (BSE), said at the BSE Best awards gala on Thursday, where capital market players with outstanding performance were honored in 25 categories.
The performance of the companies that make up the benchmark indices was crisis-proof, which was also appreciated by investors. “After the 2022 downturn, the shares of the largest companies have become extremely undervalued, and after last year's big rise, Hungarian bluechips are still trading at low valuations," the BSE CEO stated.
At this year's gala, MBH Bank Plc was awarded the Investment Service Provider of the Year and Mortgage Bond Issuer of the Year.
This year, Erste Bank was named the largest turnover futures trader of the year and the largest turnover futures trader of the BUX index.
The investment service provider award for the largest equity introduction of the year was shared by Concorde Securities Plc. and OTP Bank Plc. Hungary's largest bank also took home the Issuer Transparency Award and the Highest Turnover Equity Issuer of the Year Award.
Wood&Company Financial Services. a.s. was named the highest-turnover share broker of the year with a total turnover of HUF 1,212 billion, ahead of Erste Investment Plc. and Concorde Securities Plc.
The issuer with the highest price increase of the year in the premium category was OPUS GLOBAL Plc, which more than tripled its share price.
The company with the largest long-term share price increase was ALTEO Plc, with a 341% increase between 2019 and 2023.
As in previous years, the awards were decided by a professional jury of members of the Exchange Advisory Board.
