The stock index of the Budapest Stock Exchange (BSE) rose this week amid falling turnover, closing at 46,440.14 points on Friday, 0.74% higher than a week earlier, MTI reported along with a brief analysis Sunday morning.
The weekly turnover of the stock market was HUF 46.19 billion, up from HUF 57.59 billion the previous week, with the leading stocks, with the exception of Richter, gaining.
On Monday, the BUX outperformed the European stock market indices, with all leading shares rising on the positive sentiment, although turnover was low on the Hungarian stock market. On Tuesday, however, the Hungarian stock index closed in negative territory, with only Magyar Telekom among the leading stocks gaining. On Wednesday, the BUX rose sharply on the back of positive international sentiment, albeit with relatively low turnover; the Budapest Stock Exchange was led by OTP, with Mol and Richter closing slightly higher.
On Thursday, the BUX performed well in European terms, with a small decline, and the leading shares also had a better day than other major issuers on the continent. Magyar Telekom was significantly stronger and Mol also closed in positive territory. The Hungarian stock market closed the last trading day of the week in negative territory, although there was no market-moving news. Richter was the main drag on the BUX, but Magyar Telekom also turned strongly negative.
Among the leading stocks of the week, OTP gained the most, by 3.36%, closing at HUF 11,370 on Friday, with a weekly turnover of HUF 30.14 billion.
Magyar Telekom also performed well, rising 2.75%. The share closed Friday at HUF 374, with a weekly turnover of HUF 1.58 billion.
The price of Mol rose by 0.07%, with a weekly turnover of HUF 5.62 billion, closing Friday at HUF 2.690.
Richter weakened by 2.84% this week, ending Friday's trading at 8220, with a weekly turnover of HUF 7.59 billion.
The BUMIX index of small and medium-sized shares closed the week at 3676.79 points, down 22.80 points or 0.62% on the previous week.
