The debt of the central government increased by HUF 2,557 billion to HUF 63,096 billion by the end of May from the end of 2025, the Government Debt Management Agency (ÁKK) said in a monthly report on Wednesday.

Net FX issuance, also financing the deficit and increasing foreign currency deposits, added a further HUF 1,359 billion to the debt increase.
The appreciation of the forint meanwhile decreased the value of FX debt by HUF 1,561 billion.
At the end of May FX debt accounted for 27.9% of the total, down from 29.4% at the end of 2025.
Forint denominated debt rose 1.53% in January-May to HUF 45,339 billion and the value of FX debt was down 1.51% at HUF 17,608 billion.
