Hungary posted HUF 138.4 billion budget surplus in October, the financial website portfolio.hu quotes a preliminary data report published by the National Economy Ministry. The sum is attributable to previously suspended EU funding that has now been disbursed.
The National Economy Ministry stated that nearly HUF 233 bn worth of EU funds - most of which had been locked up - were received in October.
It added that following a five-month debate the European Commission lifted the suspension of operating programme funding in September, hence the transfer of these funds into the state budget.
Portfolio.hu adds that thanks to the major surplus in October, the shortfall for the first ten months of the year was reduced to HUF 816 bn, which is no longer an outstanding figure compared to the end-October balance in the previous years.
