Hungary had a EUR 333 million trade surplus in December, data released by the Central Statistics Office (KSH) on Thursday show. Exports rose 6.0% year-on-year to EUR 10.809 billion. Imports climbed 6.5% to EUR 10.475 billion.
Trade with other European Union member states accounted for 72% of Hungary's exports and 70% of its imports during the month.
Hungary's export volume to the rest of the world increased 7.7%, while import volume from those countries rose 23%. Hungary's trade deficit with non-EU countries widened to EUR 189m.
Hungary's terms of trade improved 3.5% during the period as the forint strengthened 6.6% against the euro and 16% to the dollar.
For the full year, Hungary had a trade surplus of EUR 8.245 billion. Exports increased 1.6% to EUR 146.803 billion and imports rose 2.0% to EUR 138.559 billion.
