A proposal to be put before Hungarian Parliament this fall suggests the establishment of a ‘Hungarian Depository – Hungaricum House’. The institution would have a budget of HUF tens of billions.
The chairman of Hungarian Parliament’s ‘Hungaricum Workshop’, József Birinyi told the national daily Népszabadság that the Hungaricum House would be set up for the collection, registration and state “management” of intellectual property, goods and traditions that can solely be connected to Hungary – and in the broader sense – the Carpathian Basin.
The idea is to find and manage these national values in a pyramid-like structure: it is mainly the already existing local or county organizations that collect the possible Hungaricums and forward them to a higher level where the most worthy receive the ‘Hungaricum’ title. According plans, the elements of the National Depository will have significant economic advantages, even perhaps tax break. It is more likely, though, that a certain percentage of national and international development funds will have to be used for the development of these valuable national assets.
