The Tokaj Wine Business Institute (TWBI) of the University of Tokaj (THE), located in Sárospatak, NE Hungary, is launching a one-year postgraduate course in English, which will familiarize students with current trends in wine-growing and wine management, as well as industry-specific business and economics, the institute told the state news agency MTI on Thursday.
The statement quoted István Stumpf, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Tokaj Foundation, as saying: "With the establishment of TWBI, we are creating a new quality in Hungarian wine education and putting the University of Tokaj on the map of international wine business education, establishing a regional leadership role – true to the rich traditions of Tokaj. Our long-term plans include further international training courses for wine industry leaders, which we also plan to implement with renowned international partners".
The Tokaj Wine Business Institute is modelled on foreign ‘Wine Business Institutes’ and is active in both education and research. The new course, to be launched in the fall, will be run in partnership with the School of Wine & Spirits Business at the Burgundy School of Business (BSB) in Dijon, and the most successful students will also be eligible for scholarships including full tuition fees, according to the announcement.
As Attila Fiáth, Director of the Tokaj Wine Business Institute, pointed out, the wine business manager course is primarily aimed at young winemakers without business qualifications and commercial professionals without wine knowledge. According to him, the training is unique in Central Europe, so they are not only expecting people from Hungary, but also from neighboring countries.
