Record Number of Hungarians Working in Austria

In July, 114,448 Hungarian citizens were working in Austria, 980 more than a month earlier, the financial news site privatbankar.hu reported. This is a new historical record and a record in the sense that it was the second highest increase among the countries. Unsurprisingly, Ukraine leads the way with 1,147 new jobs, but that is still only 12,800 in total, far fewer than many other countries.

In fact, the total number of foreigners even fell month on month, albeit by a small 121. Germany, Slovakia, the Russian Federation, Asia and the African continent added slightly more workers this month to the workforce in Austria. But many other countries, from Romania to Turkey and from Poland to Serbia, saw their staff numbers fall, the portal says.

Looking back over a slightly longer period, the number of Ukrainians increased by 5,904 in a year, while the number of Hungarians increased by 7,894. No country has caught up with these two in this respect. There was also a significant increase in the number of Romanians on a year-on-year basis, with 5,575, 5,845 Croats and 5,723 Germans.
