According to data published by the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority (MEKH) September, the level of Hungarian natural gas storage facilities has exceeded 70% of the total capacity. It means that Hungary is the third best in Europe in terms of the level of storage facilities filled in relation to consumption.

As of September 19, domestic gas storage was 70.11% of the full storage capacity, with 4.44 billion cubic meters of gas in storage.

This amount of natural gas in storage exceeds the annual residential consumption (112.26%). In terms of the share of natural gas in consumption, Hungary ranks third in Europe after Austria (72.91%) and Slovakia (53.59%), two countries that also have gas in transit, with a 40.55% share.

According to the timetable set by the European Union's Gas Storage Regulation, Hungary has to store 35% of its five-year average consumption by November 1, which is 3.65 billion cubic meters. By contrast, Hungary has already stored 42.57% of its average consumption over the last five years in underground storage by September 19.
