Gas storage levels in Hungary are above 70%, which is higher than the EU average of 67%, the Ministry of Economy and Energy (GEM) said in a statement on Thursday.
According to the ministry, the volume stored to date could cover the country’s supply for 88 winter days and meet households’ needs for 188 winter days. Available reserves are approaching 4.5 billion cubic meters, exceeding residential consumption in recent years – which averaged 3 to 3.2 billion cubic meters – by one-third to one-half.
The consumption-based storage level also exceeded 50%, significantly surpassing the European average of 21%.
The latest storage levels are essentially the same as those in Hungary a year ago, though they are slightly more favorable, GEM added. Storage is proceeding as planned to ensure adequate winter preparedness. Together with import shipments and domestic production, these reserves ensure a secure supply for Hungarian consumers, the ministry emphasized.
