By early December, approximately 1,030 megawatts of new solar power capacity had been built in Hungary in 2025. The country first exceeded 1 gigawatt of growth in 2022, and since then, it has managed to exceed this level every year. Of the nearly 8,300 megawatts of capacity, more than 5,000 megawatts have been installed in these four years, the Energy Ministry said in a post on social media on Monday.
Hungary is the world leader in the proportion of electricity generated by solar panels. Between 2019 and 2024, Hungary saw the fastest growth in total renewable energy capacity among European countries.
Hungary has increased its solar capacity by at least 1 GW every year since 2022, the ministry said.
Solar capacity is now near 8,300 MW, while Hungary's capacity from renewable sources exceeded 9 GW early in September.
