Hungary's Electricity System Back Under Normal Operation

Hungarian transmission system operator MAVIR has rolled back a crisis level indicating "significant disruption."

The step was taken after the normalization of the output of Hungary's power plants, MAVIR said in a statement.

"Available production capacity and reserves ensure the balance and supply of Hungary's electricity system under normal operation," it added.

Output of the Paks nuclear power plant, which generates about half of electricity in Hungary, has been gradually ramped up in recent days after lower water levels around cooling conduits on the Danube forced a shutdown of most of its turbines.

On Monday, Prime Minister Péter Magyar announced on social media that "at the Paks Nuclear Power Plant, three of the four units are already operating at full capacity. All eight pump systems have been commissioned, and the reconnection of the last unit is proceeding smoothly. In two more days, we will reach nearly 2,000 megawatts."
