Total domestic solar capacity topped 5,400 megawatts by the beginning of October, according to latest data summary by MAVIR Hungarian Transmission Operator Co., with the first three quarters adding 1,389 megawatts, more than 300 megawatts more than the gain in twelve months of last year's record year, the Energy Ministry (EM) said on Friday.
The ministry stated that industrial solar power plants accounted for 3,276 megawatts of the installed capacity in Hungary, while household-scale solar systems accounted for 2,131 megawatts.
Solar power plants above 50 kW account for more than 30% of the total installed capacity of the electricity system. More than 236,000 systems below 50 kW are already in operation in Hungary, compared to the 200,000 systems previously expected by 2030. This is four times more household-scale solar systems than at the end of the last decade.
The government is also encouraging the further take-up of solar energy with the Solar Plus Program, which will open in January. Families can get support to install modern solar systems that include energy storage. The HUF 75 billion scheme will provide non-repayable funding for the use and storage of green energy produced at home, according to the ministry.
