A test run of the first bus powered by biomethane (Bio-CNG), a renewable fuel, begins on Budapest's 132E line, with the vehicle presented in the capital at a press conference held in front of Hungarian oil and gas company MOL's headquarters on Monday.
"It is a key strategic goal of the Mol Group to support the green transition and sustainable urban public transport with smart and practical solutions," Ambrus Halász, the MOL Group's head of corporate communications, told the press conference. He added that the group's fuel portfolio is continuously expanding with elements that simultaneously support supply security, competitiveness and the green transition.
Ádám Horváth, MOL's director of downstream new and sustainable businesses, said the project "aims to prove that sustainable energy produced in Hungary can also supply public transport purposes in Budapest, and that in the future MOL will be able to provide an increasing proportion of such energy for public transport and other usage."
Ádám Bodor, the CEO of Budapest public transport company BKK, said the bio-CNG bus will run on the 132E line until 4 November.
