Thanks to the joint initiative of the Europe Direct Baranya Information Center and Holcim Magyarország Ltd., students of the upper grades of primary schools in Baranya County participated in a two-round environmental education competition in the second semester of 2022.
The first three winning teams of the "Youth4GreenerEU" competition are awarded the right to plant a commemorative tree in their respective school yards.
"For Holcim, it is important to shape the environmental awareness of the local population and at the same time of the young generation. In this spirit, we have been organizing environmental competitions, lectures and factory visits for years. We are particularly pleased that this time we were able to organize our latest environmental competition in cooperation with a local EU information organization, the Europe Direct Baranya office, which attracted applicants from all over the region. And with the winning teams, we were able to take a small step towards limiting CO₂ in the air by planting commemorative trees," the Managing Director of Holcim Hungary Ltd., Tamás Hoffmann noted.
The winning teams of students from Pécs, Mohács and Szentlőrinc were able to plant their memorial trees in their schoolyards on June 5 and 6, 2023, celebrating World Environment Day. This was also to raise awareness of the importance of environmental protection and the challenges of climate change.
