The sixth edition of the selection will feature new works by 21 Hungarian designers, as well as works by Erja Hirvi, one of the star designers of Finnish Marimekko, from January 8 at the FUGA Budapest Architecture Center.
TEXHIBITION, which was the brainchild of Szilvia Szigeti in 2015, aims to raise awareness of the textile industry, which has been a leader in the past, the designers working in the field and the creative potential of the genre. The invited designers and and manufacturers, prototype collections will be created and presented at the designers participating in the project will be free to use them later on, and will jointly explore further sales and development opportunities and international contacts. The current traditionally presented at the Boundless Design exhibition for the first time at the Design Show.
Over the past six years, TEXHIBITION has seen the creation of a prototype collection of more than 50 textile designers, with almost 200 different pattern and colour variations, and the collaboration of a number of textile manufacturers. In addition to the home textiles - jacquard and dobby weaving, transfer and digital printing - of textile designers working in a variety of styles, the exhibition also includes unique works. The initiative also aims to foster intergenerational dialogue, with 4 to 5 young designers from the early stages of their careers invited to participate each year, alongside established designers.
Every year, TEXHIBITION invites foreign artists to participate; this year, the Finnish Erja Hirvi, the world-famous MARIMEKKO is the guest exhibitor. The designer's work is dominated by a very close connection with nature, often drawing inspiration from her travels. His spectacular work is characterised by decorative, generous graphics, humour, sometimes vivid use of colour, sometimes the opposite, with subtle and subdued tones.
