British, French, Slovak and Dutch police officers are assisting the work of the Budapest Police Headquarters (BRFK) at this year's Sziget Festival that officially kicked off this Tuesday in Budapest.

"We are cooperating with the Civil Guard, the Standby Police and the Metropolitan Municipality's Law Enforcement Directorate to provide external security for the event," a BRFK spokesperson, Soma Csécsi told a press conference held at K-bridge, which is the entrance to the festival grounds.

"Plainclothes police detectives are also involved in internal security, and if they detect any offences or criminal acts, they will take the necessary measures," he said.

He added that police presence will be maintained also on the River Danube throughout the festival.

A police 'Prevention Point' is operating on the island, providing information on crime prevention and accident prevention through interactive programs, he said. This year's programs focus on sport, drug prevention and cyber security, the spokesman pointed out.

The 32nd Sziget Festival takes place between August 11 and 15, 2026, on Óbuda Island in Budapest. Launched in 1993, the event has grown into one of Europe’s largest music and cultural gatherings, offering visitors a five-day program, world-famous artists and numerous venues. In addition to music concerts, visitors can attend theater, circus and dance performances.
