Hungarian small-scale breweries will be hosting a free nationwide event on Saturday, May 21, with beer tastings, brewery demonstrations and colorful programs. Now in its fourth year, the Open Breweries Day will feature 24 Hungarian breweries and several new beers brewed for the occasion will also be on offer.
In addition to tasting and buying beer at the participating breweries, visitors will also have the opportunity to learn about the operation of the brewery, the beer-making process and the raw materials used to make beer.
The program will also include an official beer type, which in spring 2022 will be the witbier, also known as Belgian wheat beer. This centuries-old beer has a very distinctive flavor, mainly due to the special brewer's yeast and the use of coriander and dried orange peel as spices in the brewing process. It is also a favorite of Hungarian craft brewers, sometimes using other spices. On Open Breweries Day, Belgian wheat beers are given distinctive stickers so that visitors can easily identify them.
