The Hungarian national flag was hoisted with military honor and then lowered to half-mast in Kossuth Lajos Square in front of the Parliament this Thursday on the 64th anniversary of the suppression by Soviet troops of the 1956 Hungarian uprising.
The ceremony took place in the presence of the Hungarian Minister of Defense, Tibor Benkő.
Also on this day of national mourning, Hungarian President János Áder paid his respect by placing a wreath and flowers at the grave of the martyr Prime Minister Imre Nagy and the anonymous victims of the 1956 events in plot 301 of the new Rákoskeresztúr public cemetery in the Hungarian capital.
