A new application can be used to discover the Fiumei Road graveyard in Budapest. The FiumeiGuide application for Android smartphones presents the 100 most prominent places at this national memorial site.
The results of the last four years have become tangible, including the new application, through which the graveyard on Fiumei Road can be explored individually, according to Katalin Fogarasi Radnai, the head of the National Heritage Institute (NÖRI).
She added that with the help of the application, the cemetery with its 60-hectare grove and sculpture park can become an outstanding cultural attraction on an international level. This could make it similar to places like Pére-Lachaise Cemetery in Paris, Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, or Westminster Abbey and Highgate Cemetery in London. The purpose of the application is to make the cemetery an indispensable destination for tourists visiting Hungary from abroad.
The FiumeiGuide provides visitors with information on the most important sights of the graveyard in a 21st century level user-friendly way, so that one you can easily get to know the great mausoleums, the grave buildings of the nation's great politicians, such as Lajos Batthyány, Ferenc Deák, Lajos Kossuth, and the most significant monuments and sights that include the recently inaugurated World War I memorial, the Apponyi carriage in a separate pavilion, or the partially renovated double arcade.
In addition to the most notable plots, the application also includes the graves of several significant personalities of Hungarian art, such as poets Endre Ady and Attila József or painter Mihály Munkácsy, but the application also helps users to learn about the first Hungarian female doctor, Vilma Hugonnai, the doctor who helped save the survivors of the Titanic disaster, Árpád Lengyel as well as the tomb of fashion designer Klára Rotschild.
