Founded in Milan in 1817, Pasticceria Cova is one of Italy’s historic luxury brands, combining craftsmanship, hospitality and timeless elegance. Today, as part of the LVMH Group, the Milanese Maison is present in several international markets, while continuing to represent a distinctive part of Italian cultural and entrepreneurial heritage.
The CEO of Pasticceria Cova, Paola Faccioli, tells Diplomacy&Trade about preserving authenticity, the role of Italian soft power, international expansion and the future of luxury hospitality.

Authenticity as a guiding principle
For Paola Faccioli, Cova’s international growth is based on a simple but essential principle: authenticity cannot be replicated; it can only be shared. Each Cova location, she explains, carries the spirit of Milan with it, from the commitment to craftsmanship and hospitality to the timeless elegance that has defined the brand for more than two centuries.
“Authenticity cannot be replicated; it can only be shared.” This idea, according to the CEO, is central to the way Cova approaches international expansion. Growing beyond Italy does not mean adapting or diluting the brand’s identity. On the contrary, it means introducing new audiences to a distinctive part of Italian culture while remaining faithful to the values that have guided Cova since 1817.
“For us, international expansion means sharing the essence of Cova with the world, without compromising the Milanese character that makes the brand unique,” she adds.
An ambassador of Italian excellence
In the luxury sector, Italian brands often communicate much more than products. They convey lifestyle, culture, aesthetics and, in many ways, the image of a country. Paola Faccioli points out that Italian luxury is admired around the world because it embodies beauty, creativity, craftsmanship and a distinctive way of life.
Cova contributes to this cultural influence by offering an experience that goes beyond gastronomy. Through its products, hospitality and heritage, the brand acts as an ambassador of Italian excellence.
She points out that “Cova helps strengthen the global perception of Italy as a country of culture, refinement and savoir-faire.” In this sense, the Maison also plays a role in Italian soft power, presenting the country not through formal diplomacy, but through taste, elegance, service and everyday cultural experience.
Strength within a global luxury group
As part of the LVMH Group, Cova operates in a global luxury environment that offers important strategic advantages. Paola Faccioli stresses that belonging to the Group provides access to exceptional expertise, long-term strategic vision and an unparalleled international network in the luxury sector.
At the same time, she underlines that one of LVMH’s strengths is its respect for the uniqueness of each Maison. For Cova, this means being able to benefit from international opportunities while preserving its Milanese roots, heritage and distinctive character.
“The objective is not to standardize, but to strengthen what makes each Maison truly exceptional.” This balance between global reach and individual identity is particularly important for a historic brand such as Cova, whose value lies not only in its products, but also in its atmosphere, heritage and cultural meaning.
Balancing local expectations and Milanese character
International expansion also requires a careful balance between local market expectations and the brand’s original Milanese identity. The CEO says that Cova always starts from its own heritage. While local cultures, habits and customer preferences are respected, certain values remain non-negotiable. Quality, craftsmanship, hospitality and elegance are the pillars that define Cova in every market.
“Wherever Cova is present, guests should feel the same sense of refinement, warmth and attention to detail.” For Faccioli, the right balance lies in understanding the local context while ensuring that every guest experiences the same authenticity and excellence they would find in Milan.
The future of luxury hospitality
The world of hospitality and luxury consumption has changed significantly in recent years. Guests today are looking not only for high-quality products, but also for memorable moments, emotional connection and personalized attention. Paola Faccioli considers personalized experiences one of the defining elements of contemporary luxury: “today’s guests are looking for meaningful connections and memorable moments, not simply products.”
She also points out that sustainability has become increasingly important – not as a passing trend, but as a responsibility. Digital tools, meanwhile, play an important role in strengthening customer engagement and enhancing the overall experience. However, the CEO remains convinced that the essence of luxury cannot be reduced to technology:
“true luxury will always remain rooted in human relationships, attention to detail and exceptional service.”
With its Milanese roots, international presence and commitment to craftsmanship, Cova continues to position itself as more than a historic pasticceria. It is a cultural ambassador of Italian elegance, bringing a distinctive expression of Milanese hospitality to the global luxury stage.
