Due to the technical condition of the 143-year-old Nyugati Railway Station and the preservation of its monumental value, as well as its prominent role in railway traffic, the reconstruction of the roof structure of the building complex as soon as possible became urgent.
MÁV Hungarian Railways says that in order to carry out the work classified as one of the priority renovations of MÁV's station development project, the railway company keeps the passenger hall closed to the beginning of December. For the duration of the works, a temporary timetable is introduced with several trains directed to other stations in Budapest.
For the time of the renovation, the track hall of the Nyugati Railway Station is closed to passenger traffic, so the tracks can be accessed through the side entrances from Eiffel Square and the shopping center instead of the main entrance on Teréz körút. Pedestrian information is provided by large molinos at the main entrance and 20 passenger information boards in the train station area.
