JYSK's distribution center in Ecser is now serving six countries. The center, which was built with an investment of EUR 200 million, is the largest of its kind in the country, with two fully automated high-bay warehouses over 40 meters high, the store chain told MTI.
The high-tech base, which was inaugurated in 2022, serves JYSK stores in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, in addition to Hungarian, Croatian, Slovakian and Slovenian stores.
The 143,000-square-meter logistics center has 400 trucks rolling out of the facility every week, with roughly 130,000 cubic meters of goods stored, which still only represents 50% capacity utilization.
According to the information sheet, the 143,000-square-meter facility - the size of almost 20 soccer fields - includes high-bay warehouses, freight transfer and loading ramps, and an office building on a 560,000-square-meter site. This will make the Ecseri unit the largest single-space distribution center in the country.
Jaroslaw Sobczyk, head of the JYSK logistics center in Ecser, said in a statement that JYSK's distribution center in Ecser also handles online orders from six countries. The majority of online orders still come from Hungary, which accounts for 40% of all orders.
The logistics base in Ecser employs 300 people.
The center also contributes to JYSK's sustainability goals: with the launch of the Ecser facility, JYSK will save 4.5 million kilometers of road freight transport per year, which means roughly 3,600 tons of carbon dioxide per year. In addition, solar panels have been installed on 6,000 square meters of the roof of the center itself, the hot water supply is supported by solar collectors, and heating needs are reduced by a heat pump. The distribution center is equipped only with electric forklifts, and electric car chargers are available in the parking lot for JYSK employees. There are also ongoing technological innovations, such as the recent replacement of hand-held barcode readers with glove readers.
JYSK has more than 3,300 stores and webshops in 48 countries and 31,000 employees. The JYSK Group had a turnover of EUR 5.2 billion in the financial year 2022/23. JYSK currently has more than 1,000 employees and 96 stores in Hungary. JYSK achieved a turnover of HUF 97 billion in Hungary in the financial year 2022/23.
