Another 80,000 doses of Pfizer vaccines arrive in Hungary this year, with a total of 4.4 million doses of vaccines delivered to Hungary in 2020-2021, Pfizer Pharma Trade Ltd. said at Monday's online press conference.

Krisztina Zsigmond, head of the company's vaccine business, said that globally, Pfizer will distribute 50 million doses of the vaccine against coronavirus, developed jointly with BioNTech, by the end of this year and 1.3 billion doses by the end of 2021. The European Commission has ordered 200 million vaccines and has an option for an additional 100 million doses in 2020 and 2021.

Tamás Fabó, Pfizer's medical director in Hungary, said the clinical trials had shown 95% efficacy in vaccines. He said half of the 43,000 people in the studies had received a placebo, half had been vaccinated, and 162 of those in the former group had been infected, eight of those in the vaccine group. The studies also showed that vaccine effectiveness was 91% in those over 65 years of age.

He noted, however, that it is not yet possible to say how long the vaccine will provide protection.
