Ample Gas Reserves in Hungary

Natural gas in domestic storage equals to 109.5% of the country’s annual household consumption in 2022.

According to the Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority (MEKH), the Hungarian natural gas storage capacity was 3.98 billion cubic meters on January 18, which is 62.96% of the total capacity.

Compared to a year ago, the volume of natural gas in storage on January 18 was 53% higher, at 1.38 billion cubic meters.

The annual domestic consumption rate was 40.12%, while the average rate for European storage was 23.74%. The average fill rate in European storage is 80%, but in most countries the storage capacity is significantly lower than in Hungary, according to MEKH.

The 3.98 billion cubic meters of natural gas in domestic storage represent 109.5% of annual residential consumption in 2022.
