Four military bomb-disposal technicians were killed in an explosion near Nádudvar, in eastern Hungary, on Friday afternoon, the Central Chief Prosecution Office of Investigation said. A fifth technician had suffered serious but not critical injuries in the explosion.
The Hungarian news agency MTI reports that Defense minister István Simicskó said the four victims, all in their 30s, would be declared heroes and nominated for the defence minister’s highest award.
The accident, which happened at a former bombing range, was caused by a 250kg WW2 bomb. Further investigations into causes of the accident are under way.
