Budapest Airport, Hungarian capital’s Ferenc Liszt International Airport ans also part of the VINCI network, presented this Friday a donation of HUF 250 million to the Heim Pál National Pediatric Institute. The support is part of a comprehensive noise protection strategy; in addition to the donation just presented, Budapest Airport is allocating an additional HUF 220 millionfor institutional noise insulation to reduce noise burdens at schools, kindergartens and other public institutions operating in the vicinity of Ferenc Liszt International Airport.
The goal of the airport operator Budapest Airport’s noise protection measures – according to a statement by the opearator – is to mitigate noise burdens for residents living in the vicinity and the users of local institutions, beside the lawful and proper operation of the airport. In addition to the children’s hospital, the company spent HUF half a billion to assist the Family Support and Child Welfare Service in Vecsés, the Széchenyi István Elementary School in Kőbánya, the Napraforgó Nursery in District XVII, the Kondor Béla Cultural Center in District XVIII and the Üllő City Library. The funds are being used to replace doors and windows at these institutions, which will have a direct, positive impact on the daily lives of hundreds of children and families.
“It is important for both Budapest Airport and the Hungarian state that the operation of the airport should create value not only in economic, but in social terms as well,” according to Máté Lóga, chairman of the Board of Directors of Budapest Airport and state secretary for economic development and industry at the Ministry of National Economy. He added that “we are proud to contribute to noise protection for institutions operating in the vicinity of the airport and for the Heim Pál Children’s Hospital. A peaceful environment is an essential factor for the recovery of sick children. We are confident that, thanks to the support we have just provided, the hospital’s patients will be able to recover in an even more peaceful and modern environment.”
The statement highlights that social responsibility is a top priority for Budapest Airport, which is why it has supported the country’s largest pediatric institution for the second time in six months. The funds just donated are being allocated for the facility’s thermal and noise insulation.
In addition, the sixth phase of the For the Neighbors of Budapest Airport Foundation’s residential noise protection program was launched in April. The airport operator has already spent nearly HUF 3 billion on this scheme, the largest of its kind ever.
