Around 200 civil and professional organizations have drafted proposals for climate legislation, the lawyer in charge of the initiative, Gábor Baranyai said at a press conference on Thursday.

He stated the proposals, drafted with the help of 40 experts, would be submitted to the government.

Marcel Szabó, a member of the Constitutional Court, said the proposals addressed meeting European Union targets, reducing the use of natural resources, and establishing a fair transition for both society and businesses.

The proposals outline the roles of the state, local governments, businesses and citizens with regard to climate change. They also press for the establishment of a body of scientific advisors to make recommendations on spending targets and an independent fund to back the green transition.

Representatives from a number of environmental NGOs, including Greenpeace Magyarorszag and the WWF, spoke at the press conference. New climate legislation is on the government's agenda for autumn.
