29 mostly elderly, chronic patients died, bringing the official total number of deaths related to the new coronavirus infection over the past 24 hours in Hungary to 46,000, as reported by the related government website koronavirus.gov.hu. In comparison, neighboring Austria (where population is about 90% of Hungary and where COVID-19 testing is extensive) has registered 16,439 coronavirus fatalities - just over a third of the Hungarian figure.
Overall, the number of patients treated in hospital has increased, but there have been fewer active infections during this period.
1,407 new infections were confirmed in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of active infections down to 75,954.
1,603 patients with coronavirus are hospitalized, 47 of whom are on ventilators.
The total number of vaccinated persons is 6,405,260, of whom 6,191,018 are on their second vaccination, 3,857,450 on their third and 279,644 on their fourth.
