COVID-19: Another 98 Fatalities, Incl. a One-Year-Old

On Wednesday morning, the list of people who died from the coronavirus infetion in the previous day was published on the government information portal. A total of 98 new victims of the outbreak were reported on Tuesday.

The list of the deceased includes a one-year-old child with an underlying medical condition listed as "mental illness".

With the 98 patients who have now died, the total number of deceased has risen to 31,619.

According to official figures, 8,434 new infected people have been found, bringing the total number of identified infected people to 923,020 since the beginning of the outbreak, the government information portal said.

There are currently 4,830 patients with the coronavirus in hospital, an increase of 308 compared to the figures released a day earlier. Of those hospitalized, 463 are on ventilators.

The last time more new infections were reported than the current total (8,637) was on April 3, the highest number in seven months.

As the fourth wave of the coronavirus epidemic spreads strongly and the number of patients increases, the number of beds in hospitals for patients with coronavirus has again increased, as in the previous waves of the epidemic. "In order to protect patients and reduce the burden on the health care system, some hospitals may again need to postpone deferrable operations," the government's page on coronavirus says.
