COVID-19 Cases Identified in Hungary Surpass 340,000

The number of people identified as infected with the new coronavirus in Hungary increased to 340,459 as another 2,716 Hungarian citizens were diagnosed with the infection in the past 24 hours.

By Saturday, 114, mostly elderly, chronic patients died, increasing the official number of the deceased to 10,554.

The number of people cured is 193,172 and that of active infections 136,733. 5,126 patients with coronavirus are cared for in hospital , 365 of whom are on a ventilator.

The related government site emphasizes that a new stage in the control of the coronavirus epidemic was reached with the arrival of the vaccine in Hungary where the vaccination of healthcare workers began on December 26. So far, three shipments of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine have been received, allowing 79,000 people to be vaccinated. Another 39,000 people will receive the vaccine on Tuesday. Vaccination was started in four large old people's homes on Thursday.

Another vaccine was granted a European marketing authorization on Wednesday, so the Moderna vaccine will soon be available in the Member States of the European Union.
