COVID-19: Fewer Fatalities, More Newly Infected

Last week, ten patients, mostly elderly and chronic, died (down from 17 in the previous week), bringing the total official number of deaths related to the new coronavirus infection epidemic to 48,838, the Coronavirus Press Center informed MTI on Wednesday morning, presenting last week's aggregate data.

It said that 528 new infections were confirmed last week (up some 18% from the previous week), bringing the total number of identified infections to 2,200,739 since the beginning of the epidemic.

The number of recovered cases is steadily increasing, now being 2,147,822, while the number of active infected has risen to 4,079.

It was also reported that 379 patients with coronavirus are currently hospitalized, 13 of whom are on ventilators – both numbers up from the previous week.

The number of people vaccinated against coronavirus is 6,422,221, of whom 6,210,305 received their second, 3,905,275 their third and 425,531 their fourth vaccination.

According to the statement, the outbreak in Hungary is currently at a moderate level, thanks in part to the high level of vaccination. Unvaccinated people are still the most at risk and are being urged to continue to be vaccinated.

It is recommended that anyone who has had their previous vaccination more than four months ago should receive the booster vaccine, they said.
