11, mostly elderly, chronic patients died last week (up from six in the previous week), bringing the official total number of deaths in this country to 48,762, the government's Coronavirus Press Center said on Wednesday.
878 new infections were confirmed in the past week (slightly down from the previous week), bringing the total number of identified infections to 2,196,804 since the start of the outbreak.
The number of recovered cases increased to 2,143,788 while the number of active infected has increased to 4,254.
There are currently 395 patients with the new coronavirus infection in hospital in Hungary, 14 of whom are on ventilators - both numbers up from last week.
The number of people vaccinated against the coronavirus in Hungary is 6,421,986, of whom 6,209,406 received their second, 3,905,026 their third and 424,655 their fourth vaccination.
According to the statement, the epidemic in Hungary is currently "at a moderate level," thanks in part to the high vaccination rate. It was stressed that unvaccinated people remain the most at risk and are therefore still encouraged to get vaccinated.
