COVID-19: Slightly Worsening Numbers in Hungary

13, mostly elderly, chronic patients died last week (up from 11 in the previous week), bringing the official total number of deaths as a result of the new coronavirus infection in this country to 48,775, the government's Coronavirus Press Center said on Wednesday.

1,016 new infections were confirmed in the past week (up by 138 from the previous week), bringing the total number of identified infections to 2,197,820 since the start of the outbreak.

The number of recovered cases increased to 2,144,382 while the number of active infected to 4,663.

There are currently 384 patients with the new coronavirus infection in hospital in Hungary, eight of whom are on ventilators – both numbers are lower than in the previous week.

The number of people vaccinated against the coronavirus in Hungary is 6,422,040, of whom 6,209,688 received their second, 3,905,081 their third and 424,830 their fourth vaccination.

According to the statement, the epidemic in Hungary is currently "at a moderate level," thanks in part to the high vaccination rate. It was stressed that unvaccinated people remain the most at risk and are therefore still encouraged to get vaccinated.
