179 people died of the new coronavirus infection in Hungary in the past 24 hours – a sad daily record –, mostly elderly, chronic patients, bringing the official number of deaths in this country to 16,325.
The number of new infections was 5,653, increasing the total number of identified infections to 480,860 since the outbreak began. The number of recovered people is currently 340,844, and that of active infected people has already risen to 123,691, one can read at the related government website koronavirus.gov.hu.
8,348 coronavirus patients are hospitalized, 844 of whom are on ventilators.
In the ascending phase of the third wave of the epidemic, the number of active infected and hospitalized patients is increasing.
The Hungarian government has therefore introduced further austerity measures from Monday. They are valid for two weeks, i.e. until March 22. Among others, for example, wearing a mask has become mandatory everywhere. The evening curfew has not been lifted either, so only those who work can stay on the street between 8 pm and 5 am.
