The new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) was detected in another 1,972 Hungarian citizens, increasing the official number of infected people identified in Hungary to 319,543.
A day earlier, coronavirus infection had been detected in 902 people, which means the number more than doubled in 24 hours.
137, mostly elderly, chronic patients died, so the number of deaths rose to 9,429 by Wednesday. The number of recovered people is also constantly increasing, currently 144,234 people, the number of active infected people has decreased to 165,880. 6,155 coronavirus patients are cared for in hospitals, 425 of whom are on ventilators.
The second consignment of vaccines arrived in Hungary this morning, and in addition to the five hospital hospitals designated to date, the vaccination of healthcare workers will start at several other healthcare facilities.
Adherence to protection measures remains important to slow the epidemic and the performance of hospitals. The curfew will also be in effect on New Year's Eve, the related government site reminds its readers.
