The European Union Commissioner for Social Rights and Skills, Quality Jobs and Preparedness, Roxana Minzatu welcomed the fact in Budapest on Tuesday that the opportunities of the Erasmus+ program have reopened to Hungarian students and universities.
Roxana Minzatu, who arrived in Budapest on Monday, has also held talks on education, labour rights and equal pay during her visit, the European Commission's Representation in Hungary said.
Commenting on Hungary's return to the Erasmus+ program, the commissioner said this was a significant moment not only for Hungary, but for all of Europe. She added that Europe was at its strongest when all member states could fully participate in its programs and share in its common values.
This was made possible by the Council of the European Union's decision, earlier this month, to adopt the European Commission's proposal to lift the protective measures that had been imposed on Hungary in 2022 under the Conditionality Regulation, the statement said.
Since Hungary joined the program, more than 300,000 Hungarians have participated in mobility opportunities offered by the scheme, including 80,000 university students who travelled abroad for study-related exchanges. With the restoration of full participation, around 4,700 students are expected to be able to begin a period of study abroad in February 2027.
