Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, permits for foreigners working and living in Hungary will be automatically extended if the original conditions still exist.
Due to the emergency situation related to the coronavirus, it has become necessary to settle the situation of foreign citizens living or working in Hungary, or possibly trapped here. The latest measure in this respect has been a recent government decision to extend the expiration of residence permits.
The period of validity of residence and settlement permits valid in Hungary is automatically extended until the 45th day after the end of the emergency, according to a resolution published in early April. This is done automatically if the conditions remain unchanged – i.e. the working conditions, the identity of the employer and the position of the employee do not change.
“It is important that the regulation does not apply to short-term so-called C and D visas. If you have such a visa and if your return to your country is not possible, you have the opportunity to obtain a special temporary residence permit after a preliminary appointment – as long as the emergency situation lasts,” dr. Gábor Baranyi, Director of Deloitte's Tax Department said.
