The Budapest Transport Center (BKK) has extended free travel on its public transport services for refugees from Ukraine until March 31, 2023. As in the past, the free travel is available on presentation of a Ukrainian travel document that can be used for identification purposes.
The free service, which was introduced on March 4, 2022, is available to refugees provided they have an official Ukrainian travel document (Ukrainian passport, Ukrainian identity card, Ukrainian residence permit, Ukrainian student card for other foreign students studying in Ukraine, or other document that includes a Ukrainian address for other foreign citizens).
The documents entitling to free travel will continue to be accepted on BKK lines – except for the 100E airport express, the funicular, the nostalgia lines and the boats – and on the suburban HÉV and bus lines within Budapest.
Announcing the extension of this free public transport use, the Budapest Transport Center say it continues to work to facilitate the situation of refugees from Ukraine as much as possible. The company is also asking its customers to provide assistance to refugees on BKK services during their journeys, if necessary.
