The Hungarian Minister for the Living Environment, László Gajdos, announced the launch of a probe of Hungary's battery industry in a post in a social media post on Tuesday.

The probe, extending to the battery industry's entire supply chain, will scrutinize capacities, use of materials, emissions, water use and waste management, he said.

According to the minister, the inspections do not merely involve reviewing the submitted documents; the authorities also verify on-site that the information in the permits matches actual operations and examine the entire process – from the flow of raw materials through emissions to waste management.

The probe aims to weed out and put an end to violations, while strengthening regulation and oversight of the industry, he added. "Battery production in Hungary may only operate with strict oversight, transparent regulation and genuine accountability, in a socially acceptable manner," László Gajdos highlighted.
