A HUF 62 billion tender for the construction of industrial electricity storage facilities will be launched from January, with non-refundable subsidies and revenue compensation, Gábor Czepek, the Minister of State for Public Administration of the Ministry of Energy (EM) announced on Thursday at the Energy Forum series in Komárom, NW of Budapest.
He said the tender would help to increase the existing 20-megawatt electricity storage capacity to 400 megawatts by 2026.
He stressed that it is crucial for Hungary to be able to store large amounts of green energy as soon as possible.
The storage of electricity is the most important element of the electricity system, which is why battery production capacity in this area is of particular importance, according to the Minister of State.
